Mexican league is set to embrace technology
with Video Assistant Referee set to make the debut in LIGA MX for the first-time
last weekend. IFAB, the International Football Association Board, has approved
LIGA MX to use VAR in nine matches played this weekend, started with Atlas
hosting Veracuz, two teams sitting at the bottom of the table.
As in other leagues, VAR in LIGA MX will be
limited to cases of penalty kicks, red cards, goals and cases of mistaken
identity. Other country leagues that have employed VAR includes, Germany (Bundesliga),
Italy (Serie A), Spain(La Liga), France(Ligue 1), Portugal(Primeira Liga),
Netherlands(Eredivisie) and America(MLS).
